How long is first aid valid for NSW?
If you’re thinking of booking into one of our Wollongong First Aid Courses here are the timeframes that your first aid course is valid for in NSW.
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: Valid for 36 months
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulonary resuscitation: Valid for 12 months
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting: Valid for 36 months.
Why is it listed in months and not years?
Because listing in months is more accurate than listing in years.
For example if you did HLTAID011 Provide First Aid on January 1st 2024, you would need to renew it by/on January 1st 2027.
But if you went by counted strictly by years than by doing it anytime in 2027 you would actually have a certificate that could be out of date.
Why are there renewal timeframes?
There are two key reasons. The first is practice = confidence. When an emergency hits every second counts and you need to be confident. That’s why you need to keep your first aid valid for NSW. People often refresh their CPR skills each year. The second is that times change: Just as our computers aren’t running Windows XP anymore because times have changed, so with our first aid course new improved knowledge comes out that increases the quality of first aid care
