Man Down at Woolies: Cardiac Arrest Over Rising Prices

Ever been in Woolies, grabbing some groceries, and suddenly, the bloke next to you keels over? Prices aren’t the only thing going up—sometimes it’s your heart rate.

Grab a defibrillator – These are usually near the service desk. They are becoming more common then ever. Why? Because you have a 3x better chance of saving someone’s life if you have it on hand. It’s way better to use one then wait for an ambulance.

At Accidental Health & Safety Toowoomba, our first aid training courses teach you how to handle cardiac arrests like a pro. You’ll get hands on time with defibrillator pads, learning where to put them and how to use a defibrillator to save someone’s life.

BBQ Burn at Bunnings: Jim’s Snag Saga

ns Club is a legend with those Bunnings snags, but sometimes the sizzle gets a bit too real. Burns happen, and they need quick attention.

What to Do:

  1. Cool the burn – Run the burn under cool water for 20 minutes. No fancy tricks or remedies needed—just good old water.
  2. Avoid creams, oils, or butter. They can trap heat and worsen the burn. If you don’t have access to running water, only use proper burn treatments like burn aid.
  3. Seek medical advice – Especially for severe burns or if the burn is larger than a 50c coin.

With our first aid training, you’ll learn how to treat burns efficiently. You’ll be the go-to BBQ buddy, ready to handle any snag-related drama.

Choking at the City Golf Club

A day at the City Golf Club is all fun and games until someone starts choking on a counter meal. Everyone’s there to watch the footy, not to have their day interrupted by a blocked airway.

What to Do:

  1. Check if they’re choking – If they can’t speak, cough, or breathe, it’s time to act.
  2. Encourage them to cough – Sometimes, a good cough can dislodge the object. If coughing doesn’t work you’ll need to move to the next step.
  3. Give back blows – Lean them forward and give five sharp blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand. Each hit should be hard enough to try to clear the object.
  4. Perform chest thrusts – If back blows don’t work, give five quick chest thrusts. Stand the person against the wall and push hardly with both hands in the centre of their chest.
  5. Call 000 if needed – If they become unconscious, start CPR immediately.

We don’t do the Heimlich maneuver here in Oz. We’ve got our own method that’s just as effective and safer. We’ll teach you how to tackle choking incidents head-on. Whether it’s a golf ball or a snack, you’ll know what to do.

Snake Bite Hiking Tabletop

Tabletop Mountain is a gem for hiking, but let’s not kid ourselves—brown snakes could be part of the package. If you get nipped by one, you’ve got to act fast.

What to Do:

  1. Stay calm and still – Don’t let that venom spread. No sudden movements.
  2. Apply a pressure bandage – Start wrapping from the bite site and move up the limb. This slows the venom down. We call it P.I.T. (Pressure Immobilization Technique). This makes a huge difference buying time for you to get to hospital and get help.
  3. Seek medical help immediately – No time for dilly-dallying, call 000. Don’t walk back, you’ll have the best chance to live with a lift.

During first aid training we will show you exactly how to handle snake bites. You’ll be hiking those trails with confidence, knowing you can handle whatever slithers
